Colgate Caps Off Non-Conference Slate With Win
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Raiders rolled to a 2-0 win over Le Moyne on Sunday at Ted Grant Field. The Raiders strong defensive unit combined with a goal in each half, helped Colgate close out non-conference play on a high note.
COACH HOKANSON'S COMMENTS
"Really happy to come away with a shutout victory today. We knew Le Moyne would make it tough on us but I credit the group for finding ways to score early in both halves to help set the tone. We obviously would have loved to find the net a few more times, but definitely created some good chances. Excited to be heading into Patriot League with a .500 record after a very challenging non-conference slate, and 4 straight road contests. I feel like we've been challenged in a lot of really good ways and come away with great lessons. Now we reset to 0-0 but I am pleased for us to come away with good habits like stacking wins and coming away with a shutout today leading into Lafayette."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Ari Bezanson picked up a ball from Ana Schremp and tucked it into the bottom right just six minutes into the match to put Colgate ahead 1-0.
- Brooke Bodamer was able to cut inside on her right foot and fire towards the target but the Le Moyne keeper was able to save it.
- Lydia Thornton thought she had doubled the Raiders lead but the whistle was blown for offside.
- Colgate held the Dolphins to zero shots in the first half and took a 1-0 lead into the break.
- Shortly after halftime, the Raiders built out from the back and found Ellie Stokes out on the right side. Stokes played a perfectly weighted ball to Schremp who made no mistake and buried it into the back of the net.
- Colgate dominated the match and held possession in the offensive third for the majority of the second half with Bezanson getting the best look but Le Moyne was able to keep it out, however the Raiders cruised to a 2-0 win.
GAME NOTES
- Bezanson scored for the second consecutive match.
- Schremp picked up a goal and an assist for her first multi-point game since Oct. 26, 2022.
- Ella Poppinga logged her second clean sheet of the season.
- The Colgate defensive unit allowed just one shot in 90 minutes of action.
