Kaylin Johnson added to Men’s Basketball coaching staff
HAMILTON, N.Y. — The Colgate Men's Basketball program has announced the addition of Kaylin Johnson as the newest Assistant Men's Basketball Coach, completing its coaching staff for the upcoming 2025-26 season.
"We are happy to welcome Kaylin and his family to our Colgate Basketball family and the Colgate University and Hamilton communities," said head coach Matt Langel. "Kaylin's foundation of who he is as a person align seamlessly with our program and I am confident that his energy and life and basketball experiences will add to our staff immediately"
Before joining Colgate, Johnson served as the assistant basketball coach and director of operations at Winthrop University for three seasons. During his tenure, Johnson helped guide the team to three playoff appearances. In the most recent 2024-2025 season, the team posted a 23–11 record and finished as Big South Runner-ups.
"Colgate's mission and values align with the person I aspire to be, both professionally and personally," said Johnson. "I'm truly grateful for the opportunity to work alongside Coach Langel, the rest of the coaching staff, and the community as we come together to not only provide a great experience of our student-athletes but also foster an environment of growth, toughness, and excellence through the game of basketball.
In addition to coaching, Johnson served as the athletic director at Sacred Heart Cathedral School for a year, while also coaching the boys' basketball team. Prior to becoming athletic director, he was a physical education teacher for two years at Sacred Heart Cathedral School.
Johnson's passion for coaching has remained strong throughout his career, as he also held the position of associate head basketball coach at Brevard College for eight seasons.
The Baton Rouge, La. native received his Bachelor of Science in Sports Administration from Samford University in 2012, where he was a four-year member of the men's basketball program. Johnson appeared in more than 80 games and received the team's Most Improved Player award in 2009-2010. He was also an active member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
