Herzig Named Academic All-Patriot League
HAMILTON – Less than a week removed from a top-five finish in the Patriot League championship, senior Robbie Herzig was named to the Academic All-League team on Friday afternoon.
Herzig, a three-time All-Patriot League selection majoring in Economics and Chinese, lands on the six-player Academic All-League team for the second straight season. This week he was also named the Colgate Athletics Scholar-Athlete of the Year during the department's annual Golden 'Gates ceremony.
To be eligible for the Scholar-Athlete of the Year award and the Academic All-Patriot League Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and be a starter or key player in their sport. Freshmen or students in their first academic year at their school are not eligible for the honor.
Voting for Patriot League Women's and Men's Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year and Academic All-Patriot League Team is conducted by the League's golf athletics communications contacts.
The New York native shot back-to-back 1-under rounds of 69 at the Patriot League championships, and held the lead going into the final back nine for Sunday's final round. He ended up finishing even for the tournament to bring home a top-five finish, placing tied for fourth on the leaderboard.
Competing in 11 tournaments and 25 rounds this season, Herzig led the team with a 72.0 scoring average and 11 rounds of scoring par or better. He earned four top-five finishes, including co-medaling at the Savannah Intercollegiate after firing back-to-back rounds of 68. Herzig shot a program-record 67 twice, highlighted by his first round of the season at Seven Oaks during the Alex Lagowitz Memorial.
