Raiders Dominate Doubleheader with Dolphins

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Bailey Misken became the new program record holder for all-time career strikeouts while Kiley Shelton drove in nine runs as the Raiders walloped Le Moyne, 11-0 and 13-5, on Tuesday afternoon.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Bailey Misken became the new program record holder for all-time career strikeouts while Kiley Shelton drove in nine runs as the Raiders walloped Le Moyne, 11-0 and 13-5, on Tuesday afternoon.

"First I am proud of the team bouncing back after a tough finish yesterday," Head Coach Marissa Lamison-Myers said. "Our hitters showed up today and Kiley had a monster day at the plate. I also went to give credit to Rachel for breaking her own stolen base record as well today." "I couldn't be more thrilled for Bailey," Lamison-Myers continued. "Ever since stepping foot on campus, I knew she was going to be great and tonight she validated her time here at Colgate. Records like that are extremely difficult to break and she deserves every ounce of recognition. It's my honor to be her coach!"

Misken managed to break the strikeout record courtesy of a season-high 11 strikeouts in game one, where Shelton also went two-for-four with five RBIs and a run scored. Not to be outdone, Jillian Herbst collected her third-straight multi-hit performance in the shutout win.

Game two saw Rachel Carney swipe her 23rd stolen base of the season, breaking her own program record set last season, while Adrienne Nardone tallied a season-high four hits and Shelton launched her first career grand slam.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Game 1: Colgate 11, Le Moyne 0
Both sides traded one, two, three innings in the first before a double steal and a hard-hit ball off the bat of Nora Megenity plated the Raiders' first two runs.

Misken struck out the side in the home half of the second en route to an 89-pitch, 11-strikeout shutout where she only conceded five hits.

Her 11 strikeouts are the most by a Colgate pitcher in a game so far this season and tied the program record for most career strikeouts with 476.

The Dolphins applied pressure in the fourth with only one out and the go-ahead run at the plate, but Misken rang up back-to-back batters to escape unscathed.

Shelton then doubled the advantage for the visitors in the following frame with a two-run single.

A monster five-hit, seven-run inning followed where the Raiders had the bases loaded for three straight batters, culminating in a bases-clearing triple from Shelton to put the mercy rule into effect in the sixth.

Game 1: Colgate 13, Le Moyne 5
With the program strikeout record in sight, Misken got the start in game two. The Dolphins struck first, though, after a double, stolen base, and RBI single.

The Raiders were not phased by the deficit, quickly scoring their first two runs in nearly identical fashion to game one. A hard-hit ball from Megenity tied the game at one, and a Megenity/Quinn Livesay double steal put the Raiders in front after two.

Colgate blew the game open in the third with another massive inning, this time tallying five runs on three hits, highlighted by a three-run home run from Niamh Dougherty

Operating with a sizable lead, Misken made her mark on Colgate University with her 477th career strikeout, passing Tara McGroff '99 for most strikeouts in program history.

Alexa Acker took the reins in the fourth inning, and Shelton provided some instant insurance runs with her first career grand slam. But Acker could not seal another fifth-inning ending when she allowed a home run in the fifth that cut the deficit to six.

Amanda DeSantis tallied her second RBI of the season in the sixth, which coupled with an Adrienne Nardone RBI single reinstated an eight-run lead for Colgate.

Acker finished off the Dolphins when she struck out the nine-hole hitter looking to clinch the doubleheader sweep for the Raiders in Syracuse.
