Three Things to Know: Colgate Football vs. Georgetown

Game Details
Game Details

When: Saturday, October 19 at 1 p.m.
Who: Colgate (1-5, 0-1 Patriot) vs. Georgetown (4-2,1-0 Patriot)
Where: Andy Kerr Stadium, Hamilton, N.Y.

They'll reset the scene. By 1 p.m. on Oct. 19, the Raiders are back from their week off and poised for the final five games of the regular season.

Colgate welcomes Georgetown to Andy Kerr Stadium, a Patriot League matchup to jump back into the year, for its second conference game of the season.

Here are three things to know before the Raiders and Hoyas kick off for Family Weekend.

BACK FROM THE BYE
Colgate's season was split right in half with the team's bye week during Week 7, giving the Raiders a natural separation between the first half and second half of the season.

The coaching staff checked in on recruits, evaluated game tape and looked at where the Raiders needed to improve. The players, on the other hand, had a chance to rest their bodies and reset their minds before diving right back into Patriot League play.

The team has since established a "second half mentality," Fred '50 and Marilyn Dunlap Head Football Coach Stan Dakosty said. Where the Raiders focus on each game as if they're constantly playing in the second half of a game. It's given Dakosty the chance to hone in on his team throughout these final weeks of the year, where nearly every game is an opportunity to shake up the standings and make a statement about who the Raiders are.

"We're kind of taking it as, moving forward, a second season," Dakosky said. "We're 100% identifying things that we've got to improve on, both on the field and off the field. So we had good practices last week and the players got some time to step away, catch their breath and catch up physically."

GEORGETOWN'S BIG WEEK
Georgetown sits in second place in the Patriot League after a 17-0 shutout win over Lafayette last week. The victory was the first conference win of the season for the Hoyas, and they've gotten back on track with two-straight wins after two early-season losses.

Georgetown received one vote in the AFCA Coaches Poll this week, and sophomore defensive lineman Cooper Blomstrom earned the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week after recording four tackles, two sacks and an interception last week.

However, Colgate watched Georgetown's game against Lafayette and holds a 19-1 record against the Hoyas — going 9-0 at Andy Kerr Stadium.

"With Georgetown, our games are always a battle," Dakosty said, "They had that big win last week, a huge league win for them, and they've been playing really well. It's going to be a huge challenge for us, but as we're trying to get back in this thing, it's what we wanted: a challenge."

BEEN HERE BEFORE
Though the Raiders didn't have a perfect start to the season, the upperclassmen have been through this before. Last season, Colgate reached its bye week after a less-than-ideal start, and finished the year just one game back from a share of the Patriot League Regular Season title.

"It's definitely a less daunting task than it was last year, because we've been here before," fifth-year tight end William Parker said. "It's not a situation you want to be in, but we've been here before, we stitched together a lot of really good wins late in the year."

Colgate still has everything to play for this year. All but one team is playing its second Patriot League game this weekend, and the Raiders have an opportunity to use lessons learned in Weeks 1-7 to propel them through the final six games of the year.

"It gives us some hope," Parker said. "It also reminds us that we know what it's going to take, and that's really the most helpful thing. We know what it's going to take to turn this thing around, and we can do it."

PLAYERS TO WATCH
Brady Hutchinson — WR — Jr. — Colgate
Since scoring his first touchdown of the season against Cornell, Hutchinson has been a consistent weapon for Colgate's offense this season. He returns to the field after recording his first 100+ receiving yard game of his career against Holy Cross, and has scored a touchdown in each of the last three games.

Cooper Blomstrom — DL — So. — Georgetown
Blomstrom's performance against Lafayette gave the Hoyas a burst of energy off the line of scrimmage. His explosiveness has been dangerous for quarterbacks throughout the year, and he leads the league with an average of 1.58 tackles-for-loss per game this season.

Cole Kozlowski — LB — Jr. — Colgate
Kozlowski's performance this season has put him at the top of the conference for total tackles and tackles per game. His average is third-best against all FCS programs, and Kozlowski has helped Colgate have the second-most sacks per game in the Patriot League.
