Women's Soccer Collects Three Weekly Awards
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Raiders collected three Patriot League weekly honors, the conference announced on Monday. Colgate went 2-0 this week against Dartmouth and Le Moyne with Ari Bezanson, Lydia Thornton, and Ella Poppinga honored for their performances.
Bezanson secured Midfielder of the Week honors after she scored the opening goal in both games this week. The senior netted the first goal in a 2-1 win over Dartmouth just 78 seconds into the match. She then scored inside six minutes against Le Moyne in what turned out to be the game-winning goal in a 2-0 win.
Thornton collects Rookie of the Week after she netted her second career goal and it couldn't have come at a better time. The first year rifled a shot with one touch into the top left corner with just 12 minutes to go against Dartmouth to give Colgate a 2-1 lead. Thornton logged 46 minutes in the 2-0 win over Le Moyne.
Poppinga picked up her first Goalkeeper of the Week award for her two performances in between the sticks this week. The junior made 10 stops against Dartmouth before keeping her second clean sheet of the season against Le Moyne. Poppinga leads the Patriot League in saves per game, averaging 5.22.
Colgate returns to action this Saturday as they open up Patriot League play on the road against Lafayette.
