Jeff Woodward led five Raiders in double figures with 18 points to go with a season-high seven assists in the offensive outburst. Kyle Carlesimo and Parker Jones each added 12 points, and Nicolas Louis-Jacques and Chandler Baker 11.
Colgate shot 51 percent for the game (31-61) and 48 percent from behind the arc (13-27). The Raiders started 8-for-8 from long range in an electric opening frame to build a double-digit lead that continued into the second half.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Colgate got off to a sizzling start on both ends of the floor. Jalen Cox had two early steals and the Raiders were 3-for-3 from behind the arc. Cox and Carlesimo canned a pair in a 10-0 Colgate burst that opened an early 15-6 lead and forced Boston U to take an early timeout.
- The hot start continued throughout the first half to the tune of a blistering 8-for-8 start from behind the arc. Baker canned three treys and was the first to reach double-figures with 11 points, helping the Raiders' lead balloon to as many as 30 (53-23) in the first half.
- Colgate ultimately shot 63.3 percent (19-30) and 71.4 percent (10-14) from three-point range in the first half. Defensively the Raiders forced eight turnovers and limited BU to 37.5 percent from the field (9-24) and 20 percent from behind the arc (2-10) to lead 53-25 at the break.
- The Raiders turned to Woodward to withstand an early bullrush from Boston U to start the second half. The Terriers jumped on a 7-1 run before the fifth-year scored six unanswered points, and Colgate's lead reached 30 again, 64-34, after Jones drilled a 3-ball in transition with 13:04 left.
- Colgate kept the foot on the gas and stretched the lead to as many as 37 points (80-43) after an offensive putback by Cameron Brennan with 4:02 left. In addition to Brennan, good minutes from reserves Baker, Carlesimo, and Julian Scott helped the Raiders cruise to the 87-50 triumph.
GAME NOTES
- Colgate's 53 points in the first half were its most of an opening stanza since rattling off 55 at Loyola on Dec. 30, 2022. Their 87 points were the most against a Division I opponent this season.
- Colgate also set season highs in three-point field goals made (13) and assists (22).
- Jeff Woodward, who has led the team in scoring in three of the last four games, raised his averages in league play to 16.8 points and 7.5 rebounds per game.
- Colgate with back-to-back wins for the first time this season is now 3-1 in Patriot League play for the second consecutive year, improving to 3-0 at home against league opponents.
- Five Raiders scored in double-figures for the first time this season.
