HAMILTON – Colgate Basketball put on a vintage postseason performance, shooting 52 percent from the field with 12 made 3-pointers to dispatch Army 84-55 in the Patriot League quarterfinals in front of an electric crowd Thursday night at Cotterell Court.

Jalen Cox led the charge for the Raiders, scoring 20 points with six assists and five rebounds. He was 3-for-3 from behind the arc. Jeff Woodward posted a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds to go with three assists and three steals. Chandler Baker was 6-of-9 from the field en route to 13 points, while Nicolas Louis-Jacques (12 points) was 4-for-8 from downtown.

COACH LANGEL'S COMMENTS"Great game for us. To be home in the playoffs this time of year is important. We got off to a great start. We were locked in on the defensive end. We made some good decisions offensively and then we saw the ball go through the hoop. That's certainly when our team is at our best. We kept our focus really well and we stayed with our assignments. I want to tip my cap to Army. I have a lot of respect for them but tonight I'm very proud of our group."

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Colgate started 7-of-11 from the field, including 3-for-5 from behind the arc with six points apiece from Nicolas Louis-Jacques and Chandler Baker propelling an early 19-9 lead.
  • Colgate really got going in the middle stages of the frame and it all started with Brady Cummins off the bench. The junior scored eight points with a pair of treys in a 14-3 burst that ballooned the lead to 28-12 with 7:25 showing in the opening stanza.
  • Louis-Jacques canned two more treys in a late 15-2 surge that turned Cotterell Court into a frenzy and stretched Colgate's double-digit lead to 32-17 late in the first half.
  • Jeff Woodward's only bucket of the first half was a loud one, a two-handed slam in transition just before the buzzer that fittingly capped the frame with Colgate leading 46-23.
  • The Raiders opened the second half with another 10-3 surge sparked by an early 3-pointer from Jalen Cox to stretch the lead to 30 points, 56-26, three minutes into the frame.
  • Colgate kept the pedal down led by Cox's team-high 13 points in the second half. Josh Ahayere added strong minutes off the bench, scoring six points down the stretch to help the Raiders secure an 84-55 victory.

GAME NOTES

  • Colgate advances to the Patriot League tournament semifinals for the eighth consecutive season – but it will be on the road for the first time since 2009.
  • Jalen Cox registered his fourth 20-point game of the season on his way to his eighth consecutive game scoring in double figures.
  • Jeff Woodward posted his sixth double-double of the season.
