Fitzpatrick Adds Boyes, Schoch as Quality Control
HAMILTON – Colgate University Fred '50 and Marilyn Dunlap Head Football Coach Curt Fitzpatrick has completed his coaching staff with the addition of Zac Boyes and Kevin Schoch as offensive and defensive quality control coaches, respectively.
"Zac and Kevin both have bright futures in the coaching profession and will be great additions to our staff," Fitzpatrick said. "Young coaches are such an integral part of any successful program, many times doing the little things behind the scenes that help things run smoothly and efficiently. I can speak directly about Zac, having coached him for the last four years, that he has been preparing to be a coach for a long time by the way that he played and prepared as a quarterback. Knowing how well-schooled Coach Warner's defenses were at Ithaca, I'm confident that Kevin has similar traits. I'm proud that both Zac and Kevin are able to get their start as a college coach here at Colgate."
Boyes comes to Colgate on the heels of a historic playing career as the program's most prolific quarterback at SUNY Cortland. Playing for Fitzpatrick and the Red Dragons, Boyes is a national champion, D-III Player of the Year semifinalist, two-time All-American and Empire 8 Offensive Player of the Year, four-time conference champion, and a three-year captain.
"I am honored for the opportunity to be a part of the Colgate Football family," Boyes said. "I'm extremely grateful for Coach Fitz and everyone in the football program for providing me with the opportunity to start my coaching career. It is surreal to have the chance to coach at such a prestigious university full of talented people and athletes. I'm very excited to be a part of this new era of 'gate football!"
During his time in Cortland, Boyes led the team to three straight record-setting seasons. The offense averaged north of 45 points per game in each of his three seasons under center, including 46.2 points and 509.2 yards per game during Cortland's run to the national championship in 2023 – the program's first and only title in its rich football history.
Boyes graduated from SUNY Cortland in May 2025 with a bachelor's degree in physical education.
Schoch, who played collegiately at Ithaca, served three years as the head freshman coach for Cinnaminson High School in Cinnaminson, N.J. There, he coordinated all phases of the game, organized and implemented a strength and development program, and was responsible for film management and data analysis. He also spent two summers as a coach for the NFL Alumni Youth Camp in Eastern Pennsylvania, instructing athletes from ages 6-15.
Schoch, a native of Cinnaminson, N.J., played in 24 games as a defensive back for the Bombers, compiling 52 tackles including 32 solo stops with three interceptions and 10 passes deflected. As a senior, he played in 10 games at corner and on special teams, finishing the season with 31 total tackles and two interceptions.
"I am incredibly grateful and excited to be part of what Colgate football is building," Schoch said. "At my alma mater, Ithaca College, I had the privilege of playing under coaches Trevor Warner and Tom Biscardi, not to mention playing against Coach Fitzpatrick and Coach Rotchford. It is surreal to have the opportunity to be a part of and learn from this experienced staff. I must reiterate my appreciation and excitement to become part of this storied program and exceptional group of individuals."
A Liberty League All-Academic honoree, Schoch graduated from Ithaca with a bachelor's degree in sports media in 2022.
