Colgate Shuts Out RPI

BERGSLAND ON HIS GOALS AND THE TEAM'S PERFORMANCE
"I got lucky and got the puck in good spots. I just tried to get them on the net, and luckily, they both went in. As we enter this final stretch of the season, we are  just trying to get our details down and get pucks on goal, and I think tonight was a great response."

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Owen Neuharth put the game away with an empty-netter with a minute left in the third. Ben Raymond passed to Brett Chorske, who won a puck in the RPI zone and dished it to Neuarth for the final goal.
  • RPI pulled the goalie with four minutes left but could not capitalize as Takacs posted 11 saves in the third to preserve his shutout.
  • Colgate went on the power play with eleven minutes left in the third period. Thirty seconds into the play, the Raiders added a third. Chorske swung the puck up the left side to Reid Irwin at the blue line. The senior fired a shot on net, where Tommy Bergsland put in his second of the night off the rebound to make it 3-0.
  • Bergsland had scored his first just under two minutes earlier from a shot near the blueline. Ryan Sullivan and Niko Rexine picked up assists on the goal. 
  • Takacs kept the shutout through the second period, turning away 13 shots on goal.
  • Colgate got its first goal seven minutes into the second period when RPI's goalie came out of his net to challenge the puck on a long pass from Nic Belpedio. Robby Newton won the puck from the goalie and took a shot that deflected off the goalie's pad, and Sullivan put it into the empty net.
  • The Raiders started the third period on the penalty kill and went back on it with ten minutes left in the third. The Engineers went 0-2 on the power play in the third.
  • The game was scoreless after the first, as Takacs had eight saves.
  • With four minutes left in the first, Colgate had a power play but could not capitalize and got called for a penalty with 13 seconds left in the play to go to four-on-four.
  • The Raiders also went on the penalty kill early but managed to keep it scoreless with only two shots allowed.


GAME NOTES

  • Takacs finished with 31 saves in net. This was his second shutout of the season. He has allowed three goals in his last four starts.
  • Sullivan logged his first goal of the season and seventh of his career. It was also his first multi-point game of the season and third of his career.
  • Bergsland's two goals put him on a three-game point streak with three goals and an assist.
  • Chorske posted his fifth multi-point game of the season with two assists.
  • The Raiders outshot the Engineers 38-31. Colgate went 1-2 on the power play, while RPI finished 0-4.
  • Colgate is unbeaten in its last four games (3-0-1).
