PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Colgate pulled within one at 4-3 in the third, but Brown added two more to take a 6-3 victory Saturday evening.

COACH HARDER'S COMMENTS
"It was a tough weekend. We will put it behind us and focus on a strong finish heading into the playoffs."

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Brendan Clark scored just over halfway through the third, and Charlie Gollob netted another almost three minutes later, securing a three-goal lead for the Bears at 6-3.
  • Robby Newton pulled the Raiders within one at 4-3 a minute and a half into the third. Brett Merner tapped the puck to Owen Neuharth, who played a perfect pass off the wall ahead to Newton. The junior finished a breakaway while Colgate was shorthanded for his second goal of the contest.
  • The Bears scored four unanswered, starting at the end of the first and into the second. Brown went ahead 3-2 five and a half minutes into the middle frame thanks to a tally from Lynden Grandberg. Ryan Bliss scored with 1:03 left in the second, making it 4-2.
  • Brown scored two quick goals at the end of the first to knot the score at 2-2. Alex Pineu found the back of the net with 3:46 left, and Brian Nicholas followed a minute later.
  • Ben Raymond had made it 2-0 Colgate with 4:22 remaining in the first. Ryan Sullivan received a pass at center ice and played the puck to Newton, who quickly gave it back to him. Sullivan got free on a two-on-one, dishing the puck to Raymond, who fired home a shot.
  • The Raiders took a 1-0 advantage just under four minutes into the opening frame. Sullivan stole the puck away in Colgate's offensive end, leading to a two-on-zero break. The sophomore dished it to Newton, who finished it off.
  • The Raiders had a chance to break a 2-2 tie with a penalty shot after Niko Rexine got slashed on a breakaway with just over seven minutes left in the second. The sophomore could not convert the penalty shot, with his attempt getting saved by the goalie.
  • Colgate got called for a five-minute major at the 12:53 mark of the first and successfully killed it. Newton had a chance on a shorthanded breakaway but got denied by the Bears' goaltender.

GAME NOTES

  • Newton's three points (2G, 1A) marked a career-high. It was also the first two-goal game of his career.
  • Sullivan is riding a three-game point streak and has five points (2G, 3A) in that span. He logged his second multipoint performance in three games.
  • Raymond has logged a point in three of the previous four contests.
  • Andrew Takacs finished with 13 saves in two periods of action. Nick Haas relieved him in the third.
