Four Raiders Earn Patriot League Postseason Honors
BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Colgate junior Matt LaCombe was named Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Year and was one of four Raiders to earn All-Patriot League honors, announced by the conference on Monday.
Hunter Drouin and Max Yates joined LaCombe on the First Team, while Aidan Murnane earned Second Team honors.
LaCombe had a standout season, becoming the first player in program history to earn Goalkeeper of the Year and picking up postseason accolades for the first time in his career. LaCombe has logged a career-best 184 saves, second most in the league, and tied for ninth nationally. He is averaging 13.14 stops per game, falling 11th best in the nation.
The netminder has posted a .535 save percentage, good for fourth in the Patriot League, and his 11.56 goals-against average sits sixth in the conference.
LaCombe has logged double-digit saves in all but two contests, including four games with 15 or more stops. He made a season-best 20 saves in a defeat over Loyola on March 2 and stopped 18 saves for the second time in a victory at No. 5 Army. The two-time Patriot League Goaltender of the Week has also recorded a career-best 8:30:35 in net this season.
Drouin has had a breakout sophomore campaign, tallying a career-best 45 points with 34 goals and 11 assists to earn postseason recognition for the first time. He is tied for eighth in the Patriot League in goals and sits 10th in points. Drouin has scored in every game and has posted 11 multi-goal performances, including six contests with three or more goals. He has registered a team-best five man-up goals while also logging two game-winners.
The sophomore recorded a career-best four goals in a season-opening victory at No. 4 Penn State on Feb. 2. Drouin matched that in a win over Lafayette on March 9. He once again tallied four goals while also breaking his career-high with six points in the defeat of the Black Knights.
Yates has led Colgate's defensive efforts, recording career-bests in caused turnovers (31) and ground balls (80). He sits second in the PL and fifth nationally in caused turnovers and caused turnovers per game (2.21). Yates also ranks fourth in the league in ground balls and ground balls per contest (5.71). This marks the first Patriot League postseason accolade of his career.
The junior has 10 games with five or more ground balls and has logged a caused turnover in all but one, including 10 contests with multiple CTs. He scooped up a career-high nine ground balls in the win over Loyola and broke his career-best with five caused turnovers in a victory at Bucknell on March 16. He also posted eight ground balls and four CTs against Lafayette and seven ground balls plus four caused turnovers against the Nittany Lions.
Murnane has matched his career-high with 32 ground balls and has posted 17 caused turnovers, sitting second on the team. He has had five contests with multiple caused turnovers and had 10 games with multiple ground balls to earn Patriot League honors for the first time in his career.
The junior recorded three caused turnovers at PSU and also logged two CTs while picking up five ground balls in a victory at UAlbany on Feb. 17. Murnane caused 10 turnovers in a three-game span, with a season-high four at Navy (March 30), three at Army, and another three against Lehigh when he also tied his season-best with five ground balls.
