UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Colgate's season ended with a hard-fought 13-11 loss to Penn State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday.

COACH KARWECK'S COMMENTS
"I couldn't be more proud of our team and senior class and how they have managed things. There are injured guys who came out and fought today and put it all on the line. They go out there and do their best every time. We're gritty, we're tough, we care, and that's what we do at Colgate. I know our alumni and the university are extremely proud of what we did this year, something we haven't done in a decade. We are right there in the conversation, and I am so proud of that."

HOW IT HAPPENED

• PSU secured the win by netting two goals late in the fourth. The first came with 1:09 left and the second occurred with 33 seconds remaining, pulling ahead by two at 13-11. The Nittany Lions previously evened the game at 11-11 with just over five minutes left.
• The Raiders took an 11-10 advantage after firing three in a row to start the fourth. Casey Quinson scored with 9:30 left, and Jack Turner followed just under three minutes after. Sam Erickson notched his second of the contest to put Colgate in front at the 5:29 mark.
• Penn State went on a 3-0 run to end the third to pull ahead 10-8. The Nittany Lions' run came after three straight from Colgate. Erickson caused a turnover in the Raiders' offensive end, then fired one home, putting the score at 8-7 with just over seven and a half minutes on the clock. Rory Connor had scored back-to-back goals, knotting the score at 7-7 with 7:54 remaining.
• PSU started the third with back-to-back tallies, pulling ahead 7-5.
• In the second, Turner answered three times after Penn State goals. The senior made it 3-1 at the 12:02 mark, then gave Colgate another two-goal lead at 4-2 with 8:46 left. Turner then made it 5-4 Raiders before Penn State added another late one to knot the score at 5-5 at the half.
• The Raiders' defense was the star of the first quarter, holding the Nittany Lions off the scoreboard and recording eight caused turnovers.
• Colgate took a 2-0 lead after Liam Connor scored under two minutes into the game. Ben Trumble then found the back of the net at the six-minute mark.

GAME NOTES

• Turner led the Raiders with four goals while L. Connor registered a team-best five points (1G, 4A)
• R. Connor finished with three points (2G, 1A).
• Erickson logged his second multi-goal game of the season. He also collected a team-high five ground balls and caused one turnover.
• John Carrabine recorded a team-best three caused turnovers while Quinn Fitzsimmons caused two.
• Matt LaCombe finished with 12 saves between the pipes.
