Varsity Eight Takes Fourth at SIRA Regatta

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. — Colgate got off to a strong start at the SIRA Championship Regatta on Saturday, with the varsity eight and varsity four qualifying for finals.

FULL RESULTS OAK RIDGE, Tenn. —

Colgate's varsity eight placed fourth and the varsity four took seventh after winning the B Final Sunday at the SIRA Championship Regatta.
 
"We saw some fast crews this weekend. The varsity eight came up just short of the medals, and the varsity four raced well to win the B Final. We now have three weeks to pick up more speed for the Dad Vail Regatta," said assistant coach Eric Summers.
 
The 1V8 recorded a time of 5:57.900 in the A Final, finishing .608 seconds behind the bronze medal boat from Jacksonville and within five seconds of the next two crews from Notre Dame and Virginia. The Raiders also defeated FIT and Stetson.
 
In the 1V4's B Final, Colgate registered a winning time of 6:59.671 to place seventh overall. The Raiders beat out second-place Jacksonville by two seconds and defeated crews from Florida State, Baylor, Clemson, and Rollins.
 
Colgate got off to a strong start on Saturday, with both boats qualifying for those finals.
 
The varsity eight recorded a second-place finish in its time trials at 5:06.132. Colgate trailed the winning boat from Virginia by two seconds and beat out crews from Jacksonville and Notre Dame by less than two seconds.
 
The Raiders then competed in Semifinal 2, where they logged a winning time of 5:59.617, finishing ahead of second-place Stetson by just under two seconds. The boat also defeated Mercyhurst, North Carolina, Georgia Tech, and Georgia.
 
Colgate's varsity four crossed the finish line in 6:11.036 during its time trials, coming in fifth. The boat placed two seconds ahead of crews from Jacksonville and TCU and was six seconds behind the next two from Alabama and Florida.
 
In Semifinal 2, the Raiders took third, coming in at 6:58.028. Colgate finished two seconds back from second-place Virginia and 10 seconds behind the winning boat from Mercyhurst.
 
UP NEXT
Colgate will now have a few weeks off to train for the Dad Vail Regatta, being held May 10-11 in Pennsauken, N.J.
