Pahule Scores in 1-1 Draw at Army
WEST POINT, N.Y. – A back-and-forth battle saw Colgate and Army play to a 1-1 draw in Patriot League men's soccer action Saturday afternoon at Malek Stadium.
"It was a very tough game, which was expected, and we were not our best in the early stages," Head Coach Erik Ronning said. "We're never pleased with a tie, but still happy to have earned an important point on the road heading into the final two Patriot League games."
Mason Pahule scored for the Raiders with less than two minutes left in the first half. Pahule took a loose ball from the top of the box and struck a low shot toward the goal, where it was deflected through traffic and into the bottom right corner of the netting.
Pahule's second goal of the season led the game to halftime knotted at 1-1 after Army scored the opener in the second minute. Oliver Townend finished with three saves in net for the Raiders, and they all came in the first half to keep the match even.
Colgate brought more offensive pressure in the second half, striking the only two shots on goal but they were both saved by Army's keeper. Connor Cates and Adam Fam forced saves from Harrison Faulker in the 85th and 88th minutes, respectively.
Townend was unblemished in the second half but Colgate's defense did take away four corner kicks from the home team in the final 45 minutes. Despite both teams searching for the late go-ahead marker, the defensive units stood tall en route to the 1-1 final score.
Army held a 15-9 advantage in shots while shots on frame were even at four apiece. Townend's record in goal moved to 2-1-2 in five starts on the season.
