Colgate Sweeps Lafayette
Box Score SYRACUSE — The Colgate men's tennis team celebrated its seniors with a 4-0 win over conference foe Lafayette on Sunday afternoon. The Raiders swept all three doubles courts, then lines four through six picked up three quick wins for the squad to take the match. They finished the regular season with a 12-8 record.
"That could not be a better senior day as Mikey, Benito, BG, and Josh all played great," said Head Coach Bobby Pennington. "After losing 3-4 to Lafayette last year, we quickly shut them out 4-0 in an hour and a half. This caps off a 12-8 regular season, a 4-3 league record, and a great seed for the upcoming tournament. The job is not even close to being done yet. We are literally chomping at the bit for the tournament."
The squad started off doubles strong, with the senior duo of Ben Graham and Mikey Weitz winning 6-1 at line three, quickly followed by the sophomore duo of Jerome Falcon and Parker McGowan also winning 6-1 to seal the doubles point. Junior Aidan Chung and first-year Tim Viding tacked on a 6-4 win to complete the sweep of doubles at line one.
The Raiders dominated singles at lines four through six, with Falcon winning 6-1, 6-0 at line six. Graham followed that up with a 6-2, 6-2 win at line five, and shortly after, senior captain Josh Israel clinched the match with a 6-0, 6-2 win at line four. The remaining matches were called, with Benito Vlassis up 6-3, 2-5 at line one, Lochlan Seth up 7-5, 3-0 at line two, and Aidan Lee dropped the first 3-6 but was up 4-2 in the second.
The Raiders return to action on Friday where they will travel to Lewisburg for the Patriot League tournament.
