Strong Second Half Lifts Raiders Over Loyola
BALTIMORE - Taylor Golembiewski scored 12 of her 18 points in the second half to help lift Colgate over Loyola at Reitz Arena on Sunday afternoon.
COACH ADEDUNTAN'S COMMENTS
"We earned everything that we got. Not just thinking things were going to happen for us. We have to be the ones that put ourselves in a position to make plays. Offensively and defensively we continued to play for each other. I think we did an excellent job with that overall today.
"We will be excited to play [this week]. This week is a quick turnaround with us playing on both Wednesday and Saturday. We are grateful for the opportunity to play and we will be ready to go."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Raiders jumped out to an early 6-0 lead sparked by a mid-range jumper from Taylor Golembiewski just 20 seconds into the game.
- Loyola responded with six straight to tie the game up before Colgate took a 12-8 lead after Morgan McMahon found Ella Meabon down low.
- Colgate took a 17-10 lead after the first quarter of play.
- The Greyhounds used a 9-2 run at the start of the second quarter to cut the Raiders lead to 22-19.
- McMahon scored four straight points before taking a charge to help the Raiders regain a seven-point lead.
- Loyola finished the first half on a 6-2 run including a half-court shot as the first half time expired, but Colgate still remained ahead 34-27.
- The Greyhounds continued to put Colgate under pressure cutting the Raiders lead to just three with six minutes left in the third quarter.
- The Raiders used a seven-point surge to push their advantage to 10. Sophia Diehl hit a triple and two free throws in the run.
- Golembiewski drained back-to-back triples with just under two minutes left in the third frame to extend Colgate's advantage to 54-37.
- The Raiders held onto a 57-41 lead heading into the final frame.
- Anne Bair made a layup through contact for the old-fashioned 3-point play early in the fourth quarter.
- After Loyola used a 7-2 run to get within 14, Taylor Golembiewski took over providing an assist to Amarah Streiff before she stole the inbound and made a quick layup.
- Madison Schiller picked up a rebound and layed it in to push Colgate's lead to 74-59 with just over a minute left.
- Golembiewski and Bair continued to make buckets down the stretch and helped the Raiders earn a 74-59 win.
GAME NOTES
- The Raiders picked up their second straight road win, this is the third time this season and second time in league play Colgate has won two consecutive road contests.
- Taylor Golembiewski led the team in scoring for the tenth time this season, TG netted double figures for the 16th time.
- Madison Schiller finished one rebound shy of her season-high with eight boards against Loyola. Schiller finished with eight points, eight rebounds, and four assists.
- Colgate shot 52.6 percent (30-for-57), this is only the fourth time the Raiders have shot over 50 percent this season.
UP NEXT
The Raiders (17-7, 7-4) return home for a two-game homestand next week. Holy Cross will enter Cotterell Court on Wednesday before Colgate hosts Boston University on Saturday for its annual Play4Kay game.
