Women’s Hockey Draws Minnesota in NCAA Tournament
HAMILTON – The NCAA Women's Ice Hockey Championship released its tournament field and pits No. 5 Colgate (30-8-0, 18-4-0) against No. 4 Minnesota (28-11, 19-8-1) on Saturday. Puck drop from Ridder Arena is 3 p.m. ET on Saturday, March 15.
Colgate is making its sixth NCAA tournament appearance one year removed from advancing to the Frozen Four for the second time in program history. Minnesota is coming off a 4-3 loss to Wisconsin in the WCHA championship – similar to Colgate's run after the Raiders fell to Cornell in the ECAC championship 5-1 on Saturday.
The two teams have met nine times, most recently three times in 2021, and Minnesota leads the series 8-1. Colgate's lone win in the series came the last time the teams met in the Smashville Showcase in Nashville, Tenn., on Nov. 27, 2021. Kristýna Kaltounková scored both goals for Colgate in the 2-1 victory.
Kaltounkova, a Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award finalist and first team All-ECAC selection, is first among active NCAA Division I skaters with 111 career goals, the only current student-athlete to pass the 100 tally mark. The fifth-year forward leads the Raiders with 26 goals this season.
Elyssa Biederman leads the maroon and white in points entering the NCAA Tournament at the half-century mark. The All-ECAC Second teamer is the team's leader in assists posting 32 so far this campaign. Kaia Malachino scored the Raiders lone goal in the ECAC final and is one goal shy of recording her 20th goal of the season.
Netminder Hannah Murphy has made 937 saves this season, second most in a season in Raiders history and sits two wins away from equaling Julia Vandyk at 75 for most career wins.
