Women's Lacrosse Earns Senior Day Win, 10-9
HAMILTON - The Raiders women's lacrosse team battled the elements on Senior Day to earn a hard fought 10-9 win over Bucknell at Andy Kerr Stadium on Saturday.
Lucy Licata finished the game with 16 draw controls and brought her season total to 118. Licata now holds the program record for most draw controls in a season.
COACH GUIDO'S COMMENTS
"Top to bottom, we fought through and there was a lot to fight through. Lucy [Licata] was amazing on the draws today, defense held it down most of the game, and our offense was powering through. I think we had some success but as I said last time there are things I would like us to improve on, but I am super happy with today's win."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Raiders came out on fire as they scored three unanswered in the opening frame.
- Lucy Licata buried the first goal on a feed from Kendall Belanger. Ella Bishara netted the second of the game on a dish from Caroline Panzirer before Aubrey McMahon converted a free-position shot to give Colgate the 3-0 lead.
- Bucknell scored its first of the game with less than five minutes left in the quarter but the Raiders held onto a 3-1 lead after the opening 15 minutes.
- After the Bison scored their second of the game, Kait Henning scored on a free position to give the Raiders a 4-2 lead.
- Bucknell was able to cut the lead to one before Panzirer found Licata just before the expiration of the shot clock to help Colgate regain a two-goal advantage.
- Panzirer scored the Raiders' sixth just before the end of the first half to help Colgate take a 6-3 lead into the halftime break.
- Colgate extended its lead over Bucknell to 7-3 with an early goal from Panzirer to start the second half.
- After the Bison scored two unanswered, Olivia McDonald ripped it home to put the Raiders ahead 8-5 midway through the third quarter.
- McMahon extended the lead to 9-5 with a converted free-position shot and Colgate remained ahead headed to the final frame.
- Bucknell scored three straight goals to get within one goal with five minutes left in the fourth quarter.
- Panzirer completed her hat trick with just more than three minutes left in the fourth before the Bison scored their ninth of the game to keep the Colgate lead to just one goal. The Raiders held on and defeated Bucknell 10-9.
GAME NOTES
- Ella Bishara extended her goal streak to 12 games this season.
- Caroline Panzirer scored her 30th goal of the season after she scored a hat trick against Bucknell.
- Nelle Kniffin logged two caused turnovers and one ground ball. She leads the Raiders in caused turnovers with 17.
- Meg Cole posted three ground balls and one caused turnover. Cole now sits second on the team behind Kniffin with 15 ground balls.
UP NEXT
Colgate (6-6, 2-3 PL) hits the road next weekend for its first road game in just less than a month. The Raiders will take on Lafayette next Saturday at 4 p.m.
