Women’s Rowing Sends Three Boats to Eastern Sprints
WORCESTER, Mass. –The Colgate women's rowing team sent three boats to face elite competition throughout the east coast at the Eastern Sprints on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass.
MORNING HEATS
Varsity Eight
- Colgate's 1V8 took to the water first and earned a spot in the third final, besting Marist by seven seconds with a time of 7:19.059.
- Boston University, a fellow member of the Patriot League, took third in the heat by crossing 18 seconds earlier at 6:59.818.
- The crew faced Patriot League foes Holy Cross and Bucknell, along with Drexel, Temple, and UMass in the afternoon.
Second Varsity Eight
- The Raiders' 2V8 earned a time of 7:46.243 after facing tight competition with Marist throughout the first 1500 meters of the race. The boat fell in the end to Marist's time of 7:40.827.
- The crew also faced Patriot League member Bucknell in the same heat, who clocked in 12 seconds prior for a time of 7:33.565.
- By placing seventh in their heat, the boat tookto the water again in the fourth final, dueling URI for the first time.
Varsity Four A
- Colgate's 1V4 will be going to the fourth final, clocking in at seventh in their heat, with a time of 8:54.454.
- Similarly to the 2V8, the crew fell to Patriot League opponent Bucknell by 26 seconds. The Raiders were also bested by crews from Brown, Dartmouth, Boston College, Michigan State, and Temple.
- Colgate matched up with Marist in the final.
AFTERNOON FINALS
Varsity Four A
- Colgate's 1V4 launched first for their final against Marist, crossing the line at 9:31.594.
- The Red Foxes took the lead early on and continued to extend it by 34 seconds for a time of 8:57.0.
Second Varsity Eight
- The Raiders' 2V8 was beat out by URI in the two-boat final, clocking in at 7:54.502.
- URI maintained their length ahead of Colgate by 23 seconds, finishing with a time of 7:25.516.
First Varsity Eight
- Colgate's 1V8 earned third in the third final of the varsity eight event, with a final time of 7:22.643. The crew trailed behind Bucknell's winning time of 7:18.447, and will face them again at the Patriot League Championship this Friday.
- Within the first 500 meters, all crews were within a boat length of one another, Colgate staying bow-to-bow with Temple and Holy Cross.
- At the 1000-meter mark, Colgate pushed ahead of Temple and continued to battle it out with Patriot League rival, Holy Cross. The crew continued steadily through the 1500-meter mark, closing in on UMass to hopefully secure the third place position.
- The Raiders' strong sprint successfully moved them through UMass, helping the crew obtain a third place finish.
UP NEXT
Women's rowing travels to Camden, N.J., on Friday, May 16, to close out the 2025 spring season at the Patriot League Championship.
