Women’s Tennis Hosts Colgate Invitational
HAMILTON- The women's tennis team hosted a successful home invitational, finishing with an overall record of 21-20 across two days of play against Le Moyne, Siena, and Niagara. Junior Amelia Galin and sophomore Sophia Montero teamed up to win the top flight doubles title on Sunday, ending the tournament on a positive note.
"What a great weekend of tennis with four competitive Division I programs," said Head Coach Bobby Pennington. "We got off to a really slow start on the first half of day one, but really lit it up on day two. We had two doubles teams advance to the finals and kudos to Montero and Galin for winning it all and being the best of the 15 teams here. Singles-wise all of our ladies won at least one match and we finished with more wins than losses. Play-wise, on our actual home courts on campus, weather, logistics, and a lot of fans made the weekend a tremendous success. Next up Harvard ITAs."
Other highlights from the invite included senior captain Eliza Podlas and sophomore Avery Isaac teaming up to reach the finals of their flight, and Montero and senior captain Addie Eklund each reaching the semifinals of the top draw. Sophomore Sasha Herman also reached the semis of her draw.
Notable results from the weekend were first-year Anya Kunar defeating Niagara 7-6 (8-6), 7-5, sophomore Paige Rothwell winning 6-2, 6-3 against Sienna, and sophomore Carina Cristobal defeating Le Moyne 4-6, 6-3, (10-3).
The Raiders return to action on Thursday, Oct. 10, where they will compete at the Regional ITA Tournament at Harvard. They will wrap up their fall season on Oct. 25 at West Point for the Patriot League Fall Individual Tournament.
