Women’s Tennis Falls to Seton Hall
Box Score SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Colgate hit the road for a matchup with Seton Hall where the Raiders swept the doubles point to start the match, but the Pirates proved too strong in singles action winning three of the six matches in third set tiebreakers.
"That was one of the wildest matches I can remember for the ladies," head coach Bobby Pennington said. "The best doubles in recent memory sweeping one through three with two new teams. In singles, Sophia, Rebecca, and Sasha all lost in third set superbreakers and Amelia in a breaker. We came within literally points of beating a quality big East team."
The Raiders jumped out to a quick start in doubles sweeping all three courts. Senior captain Eliza Podlas and sophomore Carina Cristobal quickly won 6-1, shortly followed by senior captain Addie Eklund and first-year Rebecca Hess who also won 6-1. Sophomore Sophia Montero and junior Amelia Galin completed the sweep with a 6-4 victory.
Singles action shortly followed, where the Pirates quickly took back two courts. Eklund fell at line four, and first-year Anya Kunar fell 6-2, 6-0 on three. Every match that followed was competitive, but Seton Hall triumphed in all of them.
Galin fell 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) at line one, Montero lost 6-4, 5-7, (10-12) on court two, junior Sasha Herman fell 7-6 (7-5), 4-6, (7-10) at five, and Hess lost 3-6, 6-3, (8-10) at line six.
The Raiders return to action on Saturday, Feb. 15, inside Drumlins Country Club for a matchup with Siena at 3 p.m.
