Colgate Defeats Siena, 5-2
Box Score SYRACUSE – Colgate women's tennis defeated Siena on Saturday by a score of 5-2. The Raiders were led by strong performances by lines one through four in singles and a strong showing in doubles.
"A very clean and impressive win for the ladies tonight" said head coach Bobby Pennington. "Our brutal schedule prepared us for this tonight. We came out sharp getting both two and three doubles and our top four played lights out clinching singles with Galin, Montero, Kunar, and Eklund. We are going to go on a run now and eat Ws. Bring on Rochester for the annual heart awareness match."
The match started off positive for the Raiders with senior captain Eliza Podlas and sophomore Carina Cristobal winning 6-2 at line two, along with senior captain Addie Eklund and first-year Rebecca Hess winning 6-2 at line three.
The Raiders used the momentum from the doubles point to quickly put the match to rest, with lines one through three in singles winning in straight sets.
Junior Amelia Galin won 6-3, 6-4, sophomore Sophia Montero won 6-4, 6-3, and first-year Anya Kunar won 6-4, 6-4 to clinch the match for the squad. The Raiders fell at lines five and six, but Eklund gutted out a 7-5, 7-5 victory at line four to add onto the lead.
The squad returns to action on Sunday in Sanford Field House, where they will take on Rochester at 11 a.m for the team's annual heart awareness match.
