Raiders Compete at Patriot League Individual Tournament
WEST POINT N.Y. – Colgate competed at the ITA Patriot League Masters Tournament with a trip to NCAA Individuals on the line. Senior captain Addie Eklund, junior Amelia Galin, and sophomore Sophia Montero all represented the Raiders at West Point, with Montero standing out winning her first round singles match.
Coach Pennington on the weekend, " It was a very competitive weekend in the inaugural Patriot League Individual Tournament for our ladies," Head Coach Bobby Pennington said. "It was a brutal draw for Eklund in singles playing the Boston University number one, and Montero/Galin had a tough match with Army doubles. Overall, we have a talented squad and a lot to look forward to in the spring, but at the same time have a lot of work to do physically and mentally."
Action began Friday with doubles play where Galin and Montero teamed up against a strong Army team and were defeated, 6-2.
Singles play followed shortly after with Eklund starting the day playing against the number two seed from Boston University, losing 1-6, 3-6. Montero followed by dominating her Holy Cross opposition, 6-0, 6-1, to advance to the quarterfinals. In the next round, she fell to a strong Army player, 2-6, 3-6.
Galin was able to get an extra consolation singles match, where she defeated Lafayette, 6-4, 6-4.
