Join us for Backpacks for Kids: Making a Difference for Refugee Families, where we’ll share what our organization is all about and the impact we’re working to create. We’ll talk about why we started Backpacks for Kids, the challenges refugee families face, and how something as simple as a backpack can make a big difference. This is a chance to hear real stories, learn how we’re supporting kids in our community, and find out how you can help us make an even bigger impact.Presenter: Kelly Ribeiro (she/her) Kelly Ribeiro (she/her), class of 2027, is from Lyndhurst, NJ. Kelly is a psychological science major, and is one of the co-founders of the organization Backpack for Kids.

Female Representation in Asian Media

This discussion-focused session will analyze representation of Asian women in media. What is the current representation of female leads in Asian film industries, as well as in the U.S. film and tv industry? What are considerations that must exist to improve this effort? We aim to highlight the shortcomings of these representations as well as highlighting progress made in recent years.

Leadership and Women's Sense of Belonging in Organizations

How does holding a leadership position in an ethnic/racial/cultural organization impact sense of belonging among women of color college students at a PWI? My research hopes to share, document, and highlight the experiences of women of color in leadership who are deeply involved in creating the cultural scene on campus, and talk about opportunities and challenges holding these positions present. Presenter: Verenice Perez (she/her); Verenice Perez (she/her) is class of 2025 from Inglewood, California. Verenice is a sociology major with a double minor in anthropology and women's studies. While at Colgate, Verenice has been an ALANA Social Justice Peer Educator, and involved in leadership roles in the Latin American Student Organization and Queer and Trans People of Color (QTPOC). After Colgate, Verenice hopes to utilize her sociology research to support her community.

The Future of Reproductive Rights

This discussion will be focused on reproductive justice in the context of our impending political landscape. Participants will leave with knowledge of what reproductive justice is, the antecedent of “pro-life” rhetoric, and predictions and obstacles we foresee for the future of reproductive rights. We hope to begin this session with some facts and figures to provide participants with a frame of reference, offer an opportunity for viewers to understand what resources are or are not available in their home state, and leave them with opportunities to become involved both at Colgate, and beyond.Presenters: Isabella Caruso (she/her), Maddie Theveny (she/her) Isabella Caruso (she/her), class of 2027, is from Pelham, NY. Isabella is a political science major and a writing and rhetoric minor. Isabella is a member of Gamma Phi Beta, is involved in the Planned Parenthood Generation Action Chapter, and is a women's, gender and sexualities studies intern. Maddie Theveny (she/her), class of 2027, is from Media, PA. Maddie is an English major with a minor in environmental atudies. Maddie is a member of Gamma Phi Beta and a women's, gender, and sexualities studies Intern.
