HAMILTON — Colgate heads to Boston University on Tuesday for a Patriot League quarterfinal matchup against the Terriers at 6 p.m.
The Raiders finished the regular season with an 8-6 record, including a 5-3 mark in Patriot League play to earn the No. 5 seed. Colgate is making its first trip to the conference tournament since the abbreviated 2021 season. BU earned the No. 4 seed after defeating the Raiders 13-12 at Andy Kerr Stadium last Friday.
Rory Connor has tallied a team-best 56 points this season behind 29 goals and 27 assists, ranking third in the Patriot League in assists and points. Jack Turner leads the team and sits fifth in the conference in goals (36), while Hunter Drouin falls two goals behind him, tied for eighth in the Patriot League. Michael Minicus has recorded 18 helpers, including three contests with four or more, helping him land tied for third in the PL.
Colgate is third in the conference in goals (177), assists (101), and points (278) while leading the way and ranking fifth nationally in man-up offense (.513), with 20 EMO goals. Drouin leads the Raiders with five man-up tallies.
On the defensive side, Colgate sits second in the nation in caused turnovers (161) and CTs per contest (11.50). Leading the charge is Max Yates, who is second in the Patriot League and fifth nationally in caused turnovers (31). The junior also ranks fourth in the league in ground balls (80) and ground balls per contest (5.71).
Aidan Murnane has recorded 17 caused turnovers, good for second on the squad. Additionally, Sam Erickson has registered a caused turnover in all but three contests, while first-year John Carrabine has six games with multiple CTs.
Junior Matt LaCombe has been superb in goal, sitting second in the Patriot League and ninth nationally in saves (184). He is tied for third in the Patriot League in save percentage (.535) and ranks sixth in GAA (11.56).
The winner of Tuesday's game will advance to the semifinals on Friday, taking on No. 1-seed Army or No. 2-seed Lehigh in West Point, N.Y. The championship game is slated for Sunday at noon.
