COACH RONNING'S COMMENTS

"Very pleased with the result and happy for the guys. The work ethic and intensity exhibited was at a very high level. It was a great way to start the season. We learned a lot about the group and where we can continue to improve. We have a very quick turnaround so it is important to recover first, and turn our focus on UNH."

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Raiders were able to pin Stonehill back for the opening 10 minutes of the match but couldn't find a high quality scoring chance.
  • Eric Widrick made two big stops inside the first 20 minutes to keep the match knotted at zero.
  • Stonehill thought they broke the deadlock in the 28th minute but the goal was ruled offside.
  • Two first years connected for the opening goal of the Raiders' season in the 38th minute.
  • Ryan Schachter slid the ball between two Stonehill defenders to the foot of Cole Ramey who made no mistake slotting the ball past the Skyhawk goalkeeper into the bottom right corner.
  • Ramey's goal gave Colgate a 1-0 advantage at the halftime break
  • Schachter doubled the Raiders lead in the 58th minute after Pipkin was able to wiggle his way into the attacking third. Schachter cut inside on his left and found a bit of fortune as a deflection off the foot of a Stonehill defender, wrong footed the goalkeeper and gave Colgate the 2-0 lead.
  • Jack Beerling was able to put the finishing header on the Raiders' third goal after Ramey forced an error from the Skyhawk goalkeeper and flicked the ball into the path of Beerling.
  • Colgate stayed tight at the back and kept its first clean sheet of the season
