FULL RESULTS CHERRY HILL, N.J. —
Colgate's second varsity four earned a silver medal, and the varsity eight placed fourth at the Knecht Cup on Sunday. The 2V4 logged a time of 7:06.52 to take second. Colgate came in eight seconds behind the winning boat from Temple. The crew also beat out boats from Army West Point, Michigan, and Fordham, thanks to a strong push at the end.
"The boat had a really good week of practice, and everyone took responsibility for improving on last weekend's results. That commitment paid off in the last 250 meters, where we passed three boats to claim a silver medal," said assistant coach Eric Summers.
In the 1V8's first race, the Raiders picked up a heat victory, defeating second-place Iona by eight seconds. Colgate also finished ahead of boats from Fairfield, Mercyhurst, and Skidmore.
The Raiders advanced to the final, taking fourth and nearly earning a medal. Colgate crossed the finish line in 5:59.57, just over a second off from third-place Trinity and second-place Temple and three seconds behind the winning boat from LaSalle. The Raiders defeated boats from Michigan and Iona.
"The varsity eight had a good heat in the morning, taking an early lead and dominating the race to win. In the final, we got into a real battle with LaSalle, Temple, and Trinity and came up just short. This is a young crew that is still finding its speed, and we expect them to get faster as the season progresses," Summers said.
