Raiders down Le Moyne
SYRACUSE — Colgate women's tennis defeated Le Moyne on Saturday night, led by their lines one through five in singles action. The Raiders dropped the doubles point but took five of six singles matches to win the contest 5-2.
"Another impressive win for the ladies," said Head Coach Bobby Pennington. "We beat a talented, much improved Le Moyne team that is well coached. We came out slowly and dropped the doubles point but came out so strong in singles, winning the top five to win 5-2. This puts us over .500 at 7-6 and prepped for Holy Cross next Saturday."
The Raiders were victorious at line one doubles, with the duo of junior Amelia Galin and sophomore Sophia Montero winning 6-2. However, the Dolphins would take doubles lines two and three to win the doubles point.
Colgate immediately clawed back into the contest, with Montero winning 6-0, 6-2 at line two in only 40 minutes. Galin shortly followed with a win at court one five minutes later, by the same score to quickly put the Raiders back in the lead. Senior captain Addie Eklund fought her way to a 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 triumph at line three to extend the lead for the squad. First-year Rebecca Hess clinched the matchup for the Raiders convincingly, with a 6-3, 6-4 win at line five. Sophomore Carina Cristobal tacked on a 7-5, 7-6(7-2) win at line four to bring the win total to five on the day. The Dolphins added a consolation point with an 8-3 win over sophomore Gigi Bohan at line six.
The Raiders return to action on Saturday, when they take on Holy Cross at noon in Worcester, Mass.
