HAMILTON — Colgate opened 2025 with an exhibition game against Concordia Saturday at the Class of 1965 Arena, picking up a 7-4 victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Raiders scored three times in the first period, including a shorthanded goal and two power-play tallies.
- Niko Rexine scored down a man on a breakaway eight minutes in, giving his team a 1-0 lead. Reid Irwin then found the back of the net on the man-up to make it 2-0. Ryan Spinale scored a nifty between-the-legs goal also on a power play two and a half minutes later, putting Colgate ahead three.
- Robby Newton continued the scoring in the second, firing one into the net off assists from Simone Dadiè and Bobby Metz.
- The Stingers notched their first goal of the night from Gabriel Proulz five minutes into the second.
- Spinale logged his second of the contest on a power play three and a half minutes later, pushing the Raiders' advantage to 5-1.
- Max Nagel got his name on the score sheet less than three minutes after Spinale's goal, finding the back of the net on a power play off passes from Alex DiPaolo and Irwin.
- Jake Schneider made it 7-1 with just under five minutes left in the middle frame.
- The Stingers scored three straight in the third, putting the score at 7-4.
GAME NOTES
- The Raiders scored four power-play goals in the game.
- Michael Neumeier, Antonio Fernandez, DiPaolo, Irwin, and Spinale all tallied two points.
- Andrew Takacs started in goal, making six saves in the first. Nick Haas stopped seven shots in the second, while Jack Olson logged 10 saves in the third.
