Raiders Sweep Loyola
Box Score SYRACUSE — The Colgate men's tennis team defeated Loyola 4-0 on Saturday night, with points coming from doubles, first- year Tim Viding, senior captain Benito Vlassis, and first-year Lochlan Seth. The win moves the squad to 10-8 on the season.
"After an excruciating doubles point we squeaked out, we just rolled them in singles one through six," said Head Coach Bobby Pennington. "The ballclub has done a 180 from the last three years, and I couldn't be prouder. We have unfinished business with Lafayette and Boston University next weekend to get to 12-8 and 4-3 in the league."
The Greyhounds took their only set of the day at line one doubles, but the Raiders rallied and took court two 6-3, courtesy of Viding and junior Aidan Chung. Colgate clinched the doubles point at line three, where the sophomore duo of Parker McGowan and Jerome Falcon won 7-5 to put the Raiders ahead.
The Raiders carried the doubles momentum into singles action, with Viding quickly winning 6-1, 6-1 at line six. Vlassis shortly followed with a 6-1, 6-1 win at line one to take a commanding lead for the squad. Seth clinched the matchup with a 6-3, 6-0 win at line two. The Raiders were up on the three remaining courts when play was stopped, as Junior Aidan Lee was up 6-3, 2-1 at line three, senior captain Josh Israel was up 6-2, 4-1 at line four, and Falcon was up 6-1, 4-4.
The Raiders return to action on Saturday, taking on Boston University at home.
