Raiders Fall to Appalachian State, 72-50
WILMINGTON, N.C. – A 20-0 Appalachian State run in the first half was too much for Colgate to overcome, and the Raiders fell to the Mountaineers 72-50 in their second game of the Live Oak Bank Holiday Classic on Friday afternoon inside UNC Wilmington's Trask Coliseum.
COACH LANGEL'S COMMENTS
"Tough matchup for us today. App State is a very well-coached and disciplined team. They're a veteran team and they stepped up and made their shots and we didn't. We didn't execute well enough. The way we're built right now we have to make shots to be in games and we didn't make enough of them at opportune times. A 20-0 run changes the dynamic of any game. We can't allow that to happen. Quick turnaround for us tomorrow but it's a quick turnaround for Sam Houston State as well. These teams that we're playing here are really good teams that have a lot of transfers and veterans who are established in their careers. Our best chance is to be the best team we can be on both ends of the court." HOW IT HAPPENED
Jalen Cox's floater in transition had Colgate in front 9-8 but Miles Tate just took over from there. He scored 11 straight points for App State, including three consecutive 3-pointers in a 15-0 run that forced Coach Langel to burn a timeout with the Mountaineers leading 23-9 at the 11:34 mark of the half.
Colgate was scoreless for nearly six minutes and App State's torrid run turned into a 20-0 streak finally ended by a three-point play from Sam Wright. The Raiders started just 2-for-10 from behind the arc while the Mountaineers connected on eight of their first 13 triples to lead by as many as 19 (31-12).
A couple late 3s from Parker Jones and Nicolas Louis-Jacques cut the margin down to 15 and that was the halftime margin with Appalachian State leading 40-25. Colgate had only six turnovers in the opening stanza but the Mountaineers turned those into 16 points, outscoring the Raiders 16-2 in turnover points.
Back-to-back 3-pointers from Wright capped a 7-2 run to bring Colgate within 10 points, 47-37, five minutes into the second half. App State immediately shot back with seven unanswered and the Raiders could never get back within single-digits the rest of the way.

- Jones, Louis-Jacques, Wright, and Brady Cummins were Colgate's scoring leaders with nine points apiece. Cox had six points along with seven rebounds and three assists.
- Colgate shot 38 percent overall (20-53) to App State's 54 percent (30-56). The Raiders were 8-of-27 from behind the arc for a 30 percent clip while the Mountaineers were 10-of-26 for 40 percent. Free throws were once again limited with both teams going just 2-for-5.
- App State outscored Colgate 23-7 in points off turnovers and outrebounded the Raiders 35-27.
