Fitzpatrick Adds Biscardi, Torres to Coaching Staff

HAMILTON — Colgate University Fred '50 and Marilyn Dunlap Head Football Coach Curt Fizpatrick has announced the additions of Tom Biscardi (outside linebackers) and Taj-Amir Torres (cornerbacks) to the coaching staff.

Biscardi heads to Hamilton with five years of coaching experience, two at the FCS Division I level. He most recently spent the 2024 season as the linebackers coach at Marist College after a four-year stint at Ithaca College as the linebackers coach and defensive run game coordinator.

"Coach Biscardi is a bright young coach with a track record of player development and being a diligent recruiter," Fitzpatrick said. "His familiarity with our defensive scheme will help us transition quickly as we approach spring practice in a few weeks. I am excited to welcome Tom to the Colgate family."

With the Bombers, Biscardi helped the squad to a 29-6 record with two Division III tournament appearances, also coaching the Liberty League Defensive Player of the Year in 2022 and 2023.

In 2023, Biscardi mentored first team All-American Ben Stola, who was also named first team All-Region and Liberty League Defensive Player of the Year. Stola registered 118 tackles, 12 stops for loss, and three interceptions.

"I am truly grateful to join the proud and storied football program at Colgate University," said Biscardi. "I have seen firsthand the programs that Coach Fitzpatrick has built and could not be more excited to work alongside him and the rest of the staff at Colgate. I look forward to contributing to the development of the young men of Colgate Football so that they can succeed and excel in Every Field and Every Arena."

Biscardi graduated from The College of New Jersey in 2018 with a Bachelor's degree in health and exercise/physical education. He was a three-year letterman as a linebacker.

Torres, a national champion, reunites with Fitzpatrick after serving the past two seasons as the cornerbacks coach at SUNY Cortland. He helped guide the Red Dragons to their first-ever national title in 2023 while compiling a 25-2 overall record and perfect 18-0 conference mark.

During his time in Cortland, Torres assisted in the development of multiple All-Conference selections, including an All-America Third Team honoree and a pair of All-Region picks. He also was part of the coaching staff that was named Empire 8 Conference Coaching Staff of the Year and contributed to Fitzpatrick's National Coach of the Year honor in 2023.

"Coach Torres is one of the most naturally gifted coaches I have ever been around.  He has a unique coaching instinct that drives his players to be their best, which fits in very well with the culture that we are building here at Colgate.  In addition, Taj's playing experience at Boston College will be critical to how he mentors and develops our defensive backs.  I am thrilled to welcome Taj and his family to Hamilton."

Torres played cornerback for four seasons at Division I Boston College from 2015-18. He finished his career with five interceptions, 16 pass breakups and 108 tackles, 72 solo. He intercepted passes versus Miami, Syracuse and Temple as a senior, and in his junior season returned an interception for a touchdown in a win over UConn. He signed as a free agent and attended rookie minicamp with the NFL's Tennessee Titans in 2019.

Torres graduated from Boston College in January 2019 with a bachelor's degree in applied psychology & human development, and history, and is a master's degree candidate in clinical psychology at American International College.

Torres was cornerbacks coach and assisted with wide receivers at Mark T. Sheehan High School in Connecticut in the fall of 2022 and was the program's defensive backs and receivers coach and special teams coordinator in the spring of 2023. He also coached defensive backs and was head strength coach at Putnam Vocational Technical Academy in Massachusetts in the spring of 2022 and coached at Xaverian Brothers High School (Mass.) and with Under Armour Youth Football in the summer of 2019.

The Amherst, Mass., native is a 2016 alumnus of Amherst Regional High School. He was a two-time first team All-Western Massachusetts football player as well as a four-time state champion sprinter on the track and field team with three titles in the 100-meter dash from 2013-15 along with a 200-meter dash crown in 2015. "I am incredibly grateful to Coach Fitzpatrick for the opportunity to coach here at Colgate," Torres said. "The chance to coach alongside such a great coaching staff fires me up! I am eager to get to work with a talented group of young players at a highly prestigious university. Through hard work and discipline we will get closer to excellence and that's what it's all about. Go, 'gate!"
