HAMILTON — Colgate took down local rival, No. 12 Cornell, 6-3 in front of a sold-out crowd of 2,222 fans Saturday evening at the Class of 1965 Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Colgate opened the scoring just over six minutes into the first with a goal from Jake Schneider. Alex DiPaolo won a faceoff that landed at Schneider's stick, who immediately ripped a shot into the goal.
  • The Big Red quickly drew even with a tally from Kyler Kovich less than two minutes later.
  • The Raiders scored two unanswered to start the second, taking its first two-goal lead. Nic Belpedio got the first, finding the back of the net five and a half minutes into the period. Robby Newton picked up the puck following a pass from Dominic Foglia and dished it to Belpedio. The senior skated around before firing a shot from the blue line that made it 2-0.
  • Colgate's third goal came from Brett Merner nearly 10 minutes later. Tommy Bergsland passed to Max Nagel in the left faceoff circle, who found his classmate cutting toward goal, and Merner quickly flicked a wrister past the goalie.
  • Ondrej Psenicka scored late in the second and added another 1:42 into the third for the Big Red, knotting the score at 3-3.
  • Following a major penalty on the Big Red, Michael Neumeier regained the lead for the Raiders, scoring his first career game-winning goal with 11:41 remaining in the third. He skated to center ice and ripped a shot through the defense. Bergsland and Antonio Fernandez picked up helpers on the play.
  • Thirty-nine seconds later, Reid Irwin made it a 5-3 game, ripping in a one-timer on the power play following passes from Brett Chorske and Schneider.
