Box Score HAMILTON — Colgate pulled ahead 2-1 in the second before the game ended in a 2-2 tie against Union Friday, with the Garnet Chargers winning the shootout 1-0.
COACH HARDER'S COMMENTS
"Tonight was a missed opportunity however we will take the point we earned. We will make some adjustments and be better tomorrow."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Ben Muthersbaugh found the back of the net just under five minutes into the second, putting Union ahead 1-0.
- The Raiders had a power play chance later in the middle frame. Jake Schneider gained possession of the puck and passed it to an open Michael Neumeier. The first-year ripped a shot that got stopped by the goalie. Ryan Spinale hit the rebound mid-air into the net to knot the score at 1-1.
- Colgate took a 2-1 lead off a series of quick passes. Tommy Bergsland won the puck and passed it to Niko Rexine, who dished it to Ben Raymond. The senior faked out the goalie before putting it past the left-side blocker.
- Union tied it back up at 2-2 off a rebound that took an unlikely bounce back to Cal Mel, who fired it home.
- The teams combined for two shots on goal in the overtime period, leading to the shootout.
- The Raiders could not convert any of their four shootout attempts, and Union scored on its fourth to take the extra point.
- Andrew Takacs stopped 14 shots in the final frame, including five saves in the final 2:03, preventing the Garnet Chargers from scoring in the period.
- At the end of the second, Union was given a major penalty, and Colgate started the third period on a five-minute power play, but it could not generate much offense.
- Neither side could find the back of the net in the first. Takacs stopped 13 shots in the opening period.
- Colgate went on the penalty kill 50 seconds into the first but only allowed three shots on goal. The Raiders got a power play later in the period but could not capitalize.
