Men’s Tennis Topples Siena
Box Score SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Raiders overwhelmed Siena on Saturday, winning 6-1 after taking the doubles point to improve to 3-2 on the season
"That is as clean and impressive of a win for the men that I can remember, definitely over the last four years" said head coach Bobby Pennington. "Two years ago that same team beat us 7-0, we didn't forget that. Doubles set the tone and credit to one and three for clinching. In singles we have four guys at 4-1 overall in Israel, Graham, Viding and Falcon. We also got Lee on track. The DDC on full display with doubles depth and culture at an all time high. We love adversity and we love staying humble."
The squad started off strong by taking the doubles point with wins at lines one and three. Senior captains Josh Israel and Benito Vlassis won 6-3 at line one, and sophomores Jerome Falcon and Parker McGowan clinched the point winning 7-6 (7-5) at line three.
The Raiders fell at line one singles, but junior Aidan Lee quickly took the lead back with a commanding 6-3, 6-3 victory at line three. Israel added onto the lead, winning 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) at line two which gave the Raiders a commanding 3-1 overall advantage.
Senior captain Ben Graham clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-4 victory at line four. First-year Tim Viding added onto the margin with a 6-1, 6-3 victory at line five and Falcon won 6-3, 7-5 at line six.
The Raiders return to action on Sunday, where they will take on Rochester at 2:45 p.m. in Sanford for the team's annual heart awareness match.
