Men’s Tennis Falls to Bucknell
Box Score SYRACUSE — The Colgate men's tennis team fell 6-1 to Bucknell Sunday afternoon. The Raiders sent three matches to third sets, but only senior captain Ben Graham scored a point with a 7-5, 6-0 win at line five.
"I thought we let a golden opportunity slip away today," said Head Coach Bobby Pennington. "Two and three dubs lost two tight sets, which proved costly. In singles, the game ball goes to BG for winning in straight sets. Bucknell is very top heavy, with their top two singles guys being literally the best two players in the league. We had Josh, Jerome, and Lochlan go three sets, and down 3-1 came up short, losing all three. The goal now is to win out."
The Bison took the doubles point, winning lines one through three. The closest match for the Raiders came at line two from first-year Tim Viding and junior Aidan Chung, who fell 7-6 (7-3).
Singles action followed, where the Bison took court one, as senior captain Benito Vlassis fell 6-2, 6-1. Bucknell took a commanding 3-0 lead with a 6-3, 6-3 win over junior Aidan Lee at line two. Graham took back a point for Colgate with his victory, but Bucknell sealed the matchup with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 over senior captain Josh Israel at line three. Bucknell added two more wins in third sets, as first-year Lochlan Seth fell 7-6 (8-6), 3-6, 0-6 at line four, and sophomore Jerome Falcon fell 4-6, 6-4, 5-7 at line six.
The Raiders return to action Friday when they travel to Long Island to take on Hofstra at 6 p.m.
