HAMILTON, N.Y. - Head Women's Basketball Coach Shannon Bush has announced Sara Mitchell as the first addition to her staff as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator.

Mitchell brings more than 10 years of coaching experience to Colgate after most recently serving as the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Manhattan University for two seasons.

"We are beyond excited to welcome Coach Mitchell to Colgate," Bush said. "Coach is authentic, relationship driven, has a growth mindset and is a true connector. Throughout the process, her passion for teaching the game and eagerness to impact the holistic student athlete was what shined through brightest. With over a decade of college coaching experience, and known as a prolific recruiter, there is no doubt that Coach Mitchell will have an immense impact on our student athletes, our program and the Colgate community."

Prior to her time at Manhattan University, Mitchell spent a year at Yale University where she developed the Ivy League Co-Defensive Player of the Year and Nancy Lieberman Award Top 10 Finalist in 2023.

Mitchell worked as an assistant coach at the New Jersey Institute of Technology from 2018-2022, helping NJIT to the second-most Division I wins in school history in 2021-22. The Brooklyn, N.Y. native contributed to NJIT's most historic season with 15 overall wins, nine America East wins and first-ever America East post-season win in 2021. Mitchell recruited and developed a 2019-20 ASUN All-Freshman Team honoree and 2020-21 America East All-Rookie Team honoree.

"I am beyond excited to get to work at Colgate," Mitchell said. It was apparent from Day 1 that Coach Shannon's values, philosophies, and views aligned perfectly. She is one of the most genuine people I have met and I am truly honored to be a part of this program with her. Her belief in me is something I will forever be grateful for. I look forward to adding value, creating genuine relationships and contributing to this team's success."

While earning a Master of Science in Sports Business: Professional and Collegiate Operations from NYU, Mitchell began her coaching career as an assistant coach with the Bobcats from 2014-2016. She graduated from King University with a Bachelor of Arts in Sport Management and Minor in Coaching.

Prior to attending King University, Mitchell played one season at Globe Institute of Technology in New York. She led the National Junior College Athletic Association in scoring and was an Academic All-America nominee.

Mitchell was born in Germany and grew up in Brooklyn, N.Y. She went to George Westinghouse High School where she was the valedictorian and the PSAL's leading scorer.
