HAMILTON — Morgan Willis scored in the second quarter, and Mackie Mann logged her first career shutout in a 1-0 victory over Holy Cross Friday evening.

COACH CORNELL DEANGELIS' COMMENTS
"The team played an excellent game today. They played with a lot of conviction and heart. Our defense and goalkeeper Mackie Mann played extremely tough and posted our first shutout of the season. Our team has stayed focused improving everyday and it is showing in our connections and team chemistry."

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Willis gave the Raiders the advantage 20 seconds into the second. A flurry of shots saw Sarah Killcommons get hers saved by the keeper, but Willis followed the rebound and buried it.
  • The Raiders had a chance to add to its lead with two minutes left in the fourth after Holy Cross pulled its goalie and Colgate earned a penalty corner. Abby Williams fired a shot that was stopped on a defensive save.
  • The Raiders' backline held strong in the third, shutting down three Crusader corners. Mann also stopped four shots in the quarter.
  • Colgate held a 7-3 advantage in shots during the second frame. Willis recorded a pair of shots early on, and Dani Palmer fired two.
  • Neither side could find the back of the cage in the first quarter. Mann was solid right from the start, with four stops in the first and two in the second.

GAME NOTES

  • Mann made 10 saves to earn the clean sheet.
  • Willis has scored in back-to-back games and it also marked her second-straight game-winning goal.
  • Annie Lake recorded a defensive save.
