Van Kempen earns first Patriot League honor
BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Claire van Kempen, a senior goalkeeper for the Field Hockey team, has been named the Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week for her performance. This marks her first time receiving this award this season.
During the week, Colgate had one match against Cornell. Van Kempen faced 24 shots and nine penalty corners from the Big Red, all while making seven crucial saves. Three saves came in the first two quarters and two shots apiece in the third and fourth.
The team's record for the week was 0-1, but Van Kempen's individual efforts were recognized with this prestigious honor.
Anna Lochhead and Ahria Dhillon earned honorable mentions for their performances against Cornell. Lochhead scored the sole goal for the Raiders to give them a 1–0 lead in the third quarter. The assist came from Dhillon. Both Raiders notched their first points of the season.
Colgate will host two matches this weekend, first against Central Michigan on Friday, Sept. 12 at 3 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 14 at 1 p.m.
