Colgate Falls on Senior Day

HAMILTON — Colgate fell 2-0 to Lafayette in its season finale on Senior Day Saturday afternoon at Tyler's Field.

HAMILTON — Colgate fell 2-0 to Lafayette in its season finale on Senior Day Saturday afternoon at Tyler's Field.

COACH CORNELL-DEANGELIS' COMMENTS
"I am proud of this team for fighting the entire game and doing a fantastic job adjusting to Lafayette's dangerous speed, passing, and cutting in the midfield. The team stuck to the game plan, and although we gave up a lot of corners, we knew we could deny goals. Our DPC unit and Mack did outstanding in only allowing one goal from corners. It was unfortunate we couldn't get on the board on the attacking side. We were there knocking on the door but, unfortunately, were unable to notch a couple of goals ourselves. This team never stopped growing and improving this season. We will truly miss our seniors. They competed day in and day out for this program and have left big shoes to fill."

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Lafayette took a 1-0 advantage with a goal from Mackenzie Hall 27 seconds into the game.
  • The Leopards doubled their lead with just under six minutes left in the third after Alex Darrah redirected one into the goal.
  • Colgate had a chance to get on the board when Sarah Killcommons got free and dribbled into the circle with six and a half minutes remaining in the fourth, but fired her shot wide.
  • The Raiders had two straight corners with 10 minutes remaining in the fourth. Issy Collin took a rip following the first that got saved. Grace Schmelzinger fired one following the second that landed off target.
  • Colgate did not allow a goal in the final quarter, with Mackie Mann stopping two shots and Lily Schoonmaker recording a defensive save.
  • The Raiders also had back-to-back corners with just under two minutes left in the second. Charlotte Hamilton fired a shot wide following the first one.
  • Colgate held Lafayette off the scoreboard in the second, shutting down six Leopard penalty corners. Mann stopped four shots in the quarter.
