Schmelzinger Earns Second Team All-Patriot Honors
BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Colgate Field Hockey midfielder Grace Schmelzinger earned Second Team All-Patriot League honors Tuesday.
Schmelzinger posted career-highs in goals (three) and points (eight) while tallying two assists. She finished tied for the team lead in goals and tied for second in points. Schmelzinger also led the team in shots with 21, firing 10 on goal.
She started all 17 of the Raiders' games this season, registering 873 minutes, second most on the squad. Schmelzinger played the full 60 minutes in three contests and logged over 50 minutes of action in 10 games.
The junior recorded a three-point performance at Lock Haven Sept. 8 with a goal and an assist. She tallied a career-high two goals and four points in a victory over Mercyhurst Sept. 22, also notching the game-winning goal, the first of her career. Additionally, Schmelzinger assisted the overtime game-winner at Central Michigan Sept. 13.
It is the first time in her career that the Orchard Park, N.Y., native has earned a postseason honor from the Patriot League.
