#5 Colgate Outlasts #14 Brown in OT

"Our team dug in and responded well to various challenging moments tonight," head coach Stefan Decosse said. "It was a great team road win against a tough opponent."
Junior forward Elyssa Biederman added a pair of points in the win, while junior defender Casey Borgiel added her second multi-point outing in her last three games. The Raiders faced a one-score deficit late in the third, but rallied from behind for the second-consecutive game to earn their seventh-straight win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Colgate struck first with the lone goal of the opening period when sophomore forward Emma Pais tickled twine on the power play.
- A dead even second stanza saw Brown leading shots on goal 11-10 with under 20 seconds until intermission, but Biederman buried another power-play goal that extended a 2-1 Colgate lead after 40 minutes.
- Brown came out firing in the final frame, scoring a pair of goals that gave the home side a 3-2 lead after just six minutes of third-period action.
- However, a five-minute major for contact to the head gave the Raiders a lengthy woman-up opportunity, and sophomore forward Kaia Malachino capitalized with her 11th goal of the season to knot the score at three.
- The Raiders remained calm in overtime, peppering three quick shots on goal while not allowing the Bears to get any open looks at the net.
- After junior captain Sara Stewart won a puck battle on the boards, Brick found an open lane and punched the puck through for the seal Colgate's 10th win of the season.
GAME NOTES
- Senior netminder Hannah Murphy made 23 saves in her ninth win of 2024.
- Colgate moves to 7-2 on the season when scoring the first goal of the game and 9-3 when scoring on the power play.
- Pais improved her point streak to 10 games, tallying 14 points in that span. She has logged a point in all but one game so far this season.
- Biederman added her seventh multi-point performance of the season and 29th of her career.
- Brick's game-winner serves as her first GWG of the season and seventh of her career.
