#6 Raiders Rally for Sixth-Straight Win

HAMILTON  — Fifth-year forward Kristýna Kaltounková scored goals in the first and third periods while sophomore defender Avery Pickering added a pair of helpers in No. 6 Colgate's 4-3 defeat of Union. The win serves as Colgate's second comeback victory in the past three games and secures a weekend sweep of two ECAC Hockey teams that were undefeated in league play entering the weekend.

HAMILTON  — Fifth-year forward Kristýna Kaltounková scored goals in the first and third periods while sophomore defender Avery Pickering added a pair of helpers in No. 6 Colgate's 4-3 defeat of Union. The win serves as Colgate's second comeback victory in the past three games and secures a weekend sweep of two ECAC Hockey teams that were undefeated in league play entering the weekend.

"This was an incredible team win against a really strong opponent," Head Coach Stefan Decosse said. "I'm happy to see the way our team stayed together there heading into the third down a goal. Collectively, this group made the decision to make a push and we clawed back in it. I'm thrilled with the way this team comes together like we did tonight and this whole weekend."

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • A wrister from Kaltounková ricocheted off two Garnet Chargers before finding nylon four minutes into the first frame.
  • Union answered just over two minutes later, but sophomore forward Kaia Malachino scored her 10th goal of the season to send Colgate into the first intermission up 2-1.
  • The visitor's scored the only two tallies of the second stanza and took a 3-2 lead into the third despite being outshot 23-19. 
  • The Raiders remained resilient, evening the score after senior Neena Brick created a turnover that fell to first-year Alexia Aubin, who found a streaking Alexis Petford unmarked in front of the net. 
  • Kaltounková won a faceoff just before the midway point of the period, but sophomore forward Emma Pais slid the puck right back to the fifth-year assistant captain who deposited the game winner between the goalie's legs.

GAME NOTES

  • Senior netminder Hannah Murphy picked up her 55th career win in the 21-save performance.
  • Colgate moves its all-time record to 45-0-3 against Union and has triumphed in the last 16 meetings.
  • Pais now holds a point streak of nine games, scoring 13 tallies in the span dating back to a 3-2 win against Minnesota Duluth on Oct. 5.
