#5 Colgate Clips #7 Quinnipiac, 4-1
HAMDEN, Conn. — Senior goalie Hannah Murphy stood on her head making 34 saves at a 97% clip while fifth-year forward Kristýna Kaltounková scored twice on the power play to lift No. 5 Colgate over No. 7 Quinnipiac on the road.
After falling behind 1-0 in the first period, the Raiders rattled off four unanswered scores including an empty-netter from sophomore forward Emma Pais that sealed the deal with under two minutes remaining.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After falling behind by a tally, the Raiders countered with Kaltounková's first woman-up score of the evening to send the game into the first intermission tied at one.
- A scoreless middle period saw Murphy deter all six Bobcat shots on goal, except for a Quinnipiac score that was wiped off the board due to offsides just over a minute into the second stanza.
- Murphy made 15 third period saves as the Raiders were outshot 15-5, but three of those Colgate shots found nylon.
- Saskatewan sisters Alexis Petford and Neena Brick connected on the go-ahead goal, an expertly-executed 2-1 break where Petford slid the puck across to Brick at the last second to beat the Bobcat netminder.
- Colgate drew another penalty deep in the third, and Kaltounková capitalized with her sixth power play goal of the season to put the Raiders up a pair with five minutes to play.
- Quinnipiac pulled its goalie with four minutes remaining, and Pais' seventh goal of the year was the back-breaking blow for the Bobcats that gave the Raiders their third ranked win of 2024.
GAME NOTES
- Kaltounková became the first Raider in program history to score 100 career goals. She is also the only active NCAA Division I skater to hit the 100 career goal milestone.
- With a goal and two assists in the win, Brick is the fourth Raider this season to tally three points in a game.
- Colgate went two-for-three on power play chances in the win, scoring its NCAA-leading 25th woman-up score of the season.
- Murphy logged her 10th career 30+ save game, her second-consecutive game making 30 or more stops. She has only ever made 30+ saves in back-to-back outings once before in her career when she made 34 and 37 stops against St. Lawrence and Clarkson, respectively, in Jan. 2023.
