Varsity Four Wins Gold for Women’s Rowing
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Colgate's 1V4+ took home gold and its 1V8+ placed third to highlight Colgate's success on Saturday in the New York State Championships at Fish Creek.
Colgate sent six boats to compete in Saturday's action in Saratoga Springs."Epic showing from our Varsity 4 today," said head coach Jim Lister. "They've shown good speed over the last couple of weeks and it was displayed once again. With 18 boats in the Varsity 4, it was really nice to see our team come out on top, especially against tough competition. Our Varsity 8 raced really hard through the body of the race, working through tough conditions. We'll keep working on their execution. Our crews raced with all their heart. Effort was shown again today. We're looking forward to getting out there again."
Colgate's 1V4+ won the grand final with a time of 8:36.017, besting second-place Marist by five seconds, and edging the field of six total competing teams. The Varsity 4 won its heat with a time of 8:13.02, nine seconds faster than Union's runner-up boat.
Colgate's 1V8+ lineup placed third out of six boats after clocking in at 7:59.430, trailing only Marist (7:52.005) and Ithaca (7:57.190). The Varsity 8 secured the fastest heat 3 time at 7:20.008, edging boats from William and Smith, Vassar, and RIT.
The 2V8+ took second place in its heat with a time of 7:42.372, just over four seconds behind Ithaca's winning boat. Colgate's 3V8+ placed sixth out of seven teams with a time of 9:07.845.
In Novice action, Colgate's boat took third out of fourth in the final with a time of 10:48.514, trailing Ithaca and Nazareth while finishing three minutes faster than St. John Fisher's boat. Colgate's quad boat finished third (12:49.178) behind Ithaca and Gordon.
