BALTIMORE – Colgate (8-15) stranded the tying run on third base after rallying for three runs in the seventh, falling just short 5-4 in the weekend finale against Canisius (7-12) on Sunday afternoon.
Quinn Livesay led the offense, going 3-for-4 at the plate. Analisa Raffaelli scored a pair of runs, while Lily Haluska went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Maya Servedio conceded five runs with four strikeouts over 4 2/3 innings. Alexa Acker tossed 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.
How it Happened
- Both teams plated a run in the first inning. Raffaelli reached on a fielder's choice, stole second, and scored the game's first run on an RBI single from Haluska. Canisius responded right away, tying the game at 1-1 in the home half of the first.
- Servedio registered a strikeout in each of the next three innings to keep the game even at 1-1 until Canisius broke the game open in the fifth. A two-run homer capped a four-run frame for the Golden Griffins, who built a 5-1 advantage.
- Colgate put together a two-out rally in the seventh. Raffaelli singled to center and came all the way around to score to cut the deficit to 5-4. Livesay doubled and her pinch-runner, Mia Edwards, advanced to third on a wild pitch but she was stranded there after Canisius induced a groundout to escape with a 5-4 victory.
