Softball Falls to Binghamton in Doubleheader
HAMILTON — Colgate Softball saw its five-game winning streak come to an end with two losses to Binghamton in its final home games of the season on Tuesday afternoon. The Raiders fell 6-1 and 21-2.
Mia Cascio belted her fourth home run of the season, while Claire Whalen and Mackenzie Lewis each had two hits in the doubleheader.
Colgate closes out the regular season this weekend when the Raiders, who currently hold a one-game lead over Bucknell for the final playoff spot, visit Army for a three-game series in West Point. The Bison are also on the road for a three-game set at Holy Cross this weekend.
Game 1 | Binghamton 6, Colgate 1
- Binghamton used the long ball to jump early and often in the opener. Elisa Allen started the scoring with a two-run homer in the top of the first – one of her two blasts in the game.
- Colgate cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the third. Back-to-back singles from Whalen and Jillian Herbst pulled the Raiders within 2-1, but couldn't cash in with the bases loaded to keep the Bearcats in front by a run through three innings.
- Maya Servedio was strong in the circle but she ran into trouble in the fifth when Allen ripped her 21st home run of the season – a three-run shot to center – to push the visitors in front 5-1.
- Emma Lawson capped the scoring with Binghamton's third homer of the game, a solo shot in the seventh, and the Bearcats went on to win the opener, 6-1.
Game 2 | Binghamton 21, Colgate 2
- Binghamton plated 10 runs in the top of the first inning and continued the home run barrage with seven more long balls in the nightcap. The Bearcats scored in every inning, including six runs on six hits in the top of the fourth.
- Cascio was the shining moment in Game 2 for the Raiders. The first-year blasted her fourth home run of the season in the bottom of the first inning – a two-run shot that accounted for Colgate's scoring production. BInghamton ran away with the second game, 21-2.
- Herbst became the program's all-time leader in career at-bats with 626 and counting. She surpassed Alana Dyson, who held the mark since 2013.

Colgate wraps up the regular season this weekend when the Raiders visit Army for a three-game series in West Point. The series begins with a doubleheader on Saturday starting at noon.
