Colgate Sweeps Rochester
Box Score HAMILTON – The Raiders capped off an undefeated weekend with a 7-0 sweep of Rochester for the squad's annual heart awareness match.
"A clean 7-0 sweep for the ladies to inch us back to .500," said head coach Bobby Pennington. "This match is so special to my family and myself. The ladies in doubles and singles didn't drop a set and made it memorable. We really are playing great doubles and singles and look forward to revenge on Providence."
The Raiders opened the match with a strong showing in doubles sweeping all three courts. Junior Amelia Galin and sophomore Sophia Montero won 6-3 at line one, senior captain Eliza Podlas and sophomore Carina Cristobal won 6-1 at line two, and senior captain Addie Eklund and first-year Rebecca Hess won 6-4.
Colgate continued to dominate in singles action with Montero getting off the court quickly with a 6-2, 6-0 triumph at line two. Galin followed shortly with a 6-0, 6-4 victory at line one.
First-year Anya Kumar won 6-1, 6-4 at line three to clinch the match and Eklund added onto the margin with a 6-1, 6-3 win just after. Junior Sasha Herman won 6-1, 6-2 at line five, and Hess finished the matchup off with a convincing win at line six, 6-2, 6-2.
The Raiders return to action next weekend, where they will take on Providence on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 3 p.m. inside Drumlins Country Club.
