BLOOMSBURG, Pa.  – The women's tennis team had an incredibly successful weekend at the Bloomsburg invitational, finishing with a 44-7 record over the course of the three-day tournament. The stout start to the fall season was highlighted by undefeated campaigns from senior captain Eliza Podlas, sophomores Sophia Montero and Gigi Bohan, and first-year Rebecca Hess.

"What an action packed, successful weekend for the ladies going 44 and seven overall in three long, marathon days of play," head coach Bobby Pennington said. "Credit to our undefeated ladies winning all six of their singles and doubles matches. We are obsessed with not just our fifth-straight winning season but securing a high seed and advancing in the tournament. We have an elite ballclub of eleven talented ladies that have a culture of unity and loyalty that is second to none."

To start the invite, the women played a hidden dual match with Bloomsburg on Friday night where they went 15-0. Highlights included Montero and junior Amelia Galin winning 6-4 at line one doubles, along with Carina Cristobal winning 6-4 at line five singles.

For the rest of the weekend, the team faced off against Slippery Rock, Kutztown and East Stroudsburg where they continued their success.

"This weekend suggests only bright things from our team this year," Montero said, "It was a great first invitational of the fall. I am so proud of the girls, especially the two first-years who made their debut. This was a great start to the fall season, and we're looking forward to our home invitational coming up."

Notable results from the rest of the weekend included Montero and Hess winning their singles matches against Slippery Rock 6-2, 4-6 (10-8), and 6-3, 7-5, respectively. Hess managed to fight back from being down 2-5 in the second set.

Other highlight matches included Podlas defeating Bloomsburg 6-3, 6-1, Bohan defeating Kutztown 6-2, 6-1, and Podlas teaming up with sophomore Avery Isaac to beat East Stroudsburg, 6-0.
